Fault finding and repairs

Electrical repairs in Hereford

Something has stopped working, or keeps tripping, and you want it found and fixed. £90 covers the callout and the first hour on site, then it is £50 an hour, and most common faults are found and fixed inside that first hour. If it turns out to be bigger, we make it safe and give you a written price before doing anything more.

What we get called out for

  • A fuseboard or RCD that trips, sometimes at random, sometimes every time it rains.
  • A socket, or a whole run of them, that has gone dead.
  • Lights that flicker, or a lighting circuit that has stopped altogether.
  • A switch or socket that is warm, buzzing or marked.
  • An outside light, socket or garden supply that has given up.
  • Heaters, fans and fixed appliances that have stopped working, like the faulty storage heater we replaced in Hereford.

Urgent, or can it wait?

Ring us now if there is a burning smell, scorch marks, no power at all, or water anywhere near the electrics. That is an urgent callout, and we send the first available electrician. If you ever see fire or smell burning, call 999 first.

Book a visit if something has simply stopped working and nothing is hot or smelling. WhatsApp a photo and we will tell you what it probably is.

Tripping? Try this before you ring

Most trips are an appliance, not the wiring. Unplug everything on the circuit that tripped, reset the switch on the fuseboard, then plug things back in one at a time. If it trips again as you plug something in, that appliance is the culprit and you may not need us at all.

If it will not reset with everything unplugged, leave it off and call us. That points to a fault in the wiring or the board, and it is exactly what the first hour is for.

Got a list of small jobs as well? Put them on the same visit. One visit for the whole list costs far less than separate callouts.

Questions we get asked

What does a repair visit cost?

£90 covers the callout and the first hour on site, then it is £50 an hour. If the fault needs more than a repair, say a new circuit or a new board, we make it safe and give you a fixed written price first. No surprise invoices.

Will you fix wiring someone else put in?

Yes. We do not need to have installed it to find what is wrong with it. Tell us what you know about the house and send a photo of the fuseboard; it helps us arrive with the right parts.

Can you come today?

We work first-available. Faults in Hereford itself are often reached the same day, and the rest of the county depends on where the team is working. Phones are answered Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. If it is urgent, see urgent callouts.

Is it worth repairing an old fuseboard, or should it be replaced?

Age alone does not condemn a board. If it keeps tripping we find out why first. If the board itself is the problem, a new consumer unit is from £800, and if you want the whole picture, an EICR from £250 tests every circuit.

Something not working?

WhatsApp a photo of the problem and of your fuseboard. We will tell you what it probably is and when we can get to you.
